What is the imaginary power of an object, and can we this?

何か道具が必要なとき、そのものが無くても似た形状のもので代用することがあります。
人々が持つ「形から機能 (function) を想像する力」に興味があります。

Imagine,  a tall bookshelf, with your favorite book sitting on the top shelf,
well out of reach, What will you do? What can you do?

たとえば、背の高い本棚の一番上にお気に入りの本があるとします。
踏み台も梯子も無くて手が届きません。さてどうしますか？

Now imagine the shelves as the step of a ladder?

そんなときはちょっと失敬して、棚を梯子に見立ててよじ上り本を取ったりしますよね。

I created a bookshelf with a hidden ladder.
a hidden ladder that will remain secret to grown – ups and tall people,
after all, they do not need this ladder.

梯子が隠れた背の高い本棚を作ってみました。
梯子は溝にぴったり埋め込まれているので簡単には取り出せません。
どこかに秘密の穴があって、見つけることができれば取り出せますが、
「大人や背の高い人＝梯子が必要無い人」には見つけにくいかもしれません。

children and short people will soon discover the secret ladder,
and the top shelf will be accessible to all.

「子供や背の低い人＝梯子が必要な人」にはすぐに見つけられる場所に、秘密の穴はあります。
秘密の穴は「形から機能を想像する力」と同じで、本当にその道具が必要な人には見つけやすい（想像しやすい）ことを示唆しています。

秘密の穴は棚の下にあります。
子供や背の低い人など、棚の下を見上げる位置にある人にはすぐ見つけられます。

梯子はスライドさせて簡単に取り出せます。
