冬は背中に陽を受けて、
夏は木陰で休憩を。
How do we adapt (change) to the changing seasons?
季節や天気など自然現象が変われば「人々のふるまい (behavior)」も変わることに興味があります。
given a tree and a chair, Where will you sit?
add to this the changing seasons and consequently the changing weather,
this is where the story starts.
たとえば、木とイスがあったとします。あなたならどこにイスを置いて座る？
ちょっと待って！季節や天気が変われば、座りたい場所も変わるんじゃないかな？
on a hot summers day I will choose to sit in the cool shadow of the tree,
in the other hand, on a cold winters day, any warmth from the sun’s rays will be a welcome reward.
our behavior is influenced by the seasonal changes of the weather.
夏の暑い日は涼しい木陰を、冬の寒い日は日だまりを、それぞれ好む人が多いでしょう。
私たちの「ふるまい (behavior)」は季節や天気に影響を受けていると思います。
a chair, ever so slow, orbits around the tree,
like the earth around the sun. coming full circle every year,
it is like a clock, mirroring the seasons.
このベンチは、地球が太陽の周りを回るように、木の周りを1年かけてゆっくりと回ります。
季節を映す時計のように。
look birds each season, migrating to their favorite place in the world,
the chair also seeks out the shade of the tree (the north side) in summer,
and the sunny spot (the south side) in winter time.
また、渡り鳥が過ごしやすい場所へ季節ごとに移動するように、
このベンチも、夏は木陰の出来る木の北側、冬は背中に陽の当たる木の南側に位置します。
in this manner, the chair can be seen as a metaphor for peplos’s (and birds) behavior through the seasons.
このベンチは言わば、季節ごとに変化する「人々のふるまい (behavior)」を暗喩したものです。
